Expanded Dramaturgy
About the Book Series
This series expands dramaturgical insight through intersections between the performing arts and a broader range of disciplines.
Dramaturgical awareness and agency have been developed through different performing arts praxes (including text-based and devised theatre, dance, opera, interdisciplinary performance, performance art, and new circus). The field has advanced its focus from compositional models or concepts intended to organize performance elements, through strategies of creation and collaboration, to the facilitation of audience experience and engagement. Dramaturgical questions that are alive in contemporary praxis and research include how ideas are sourced, the ethics of collaboration, and strategies for navigating feedback between materials, artists, and contexts. This series articulates, advances, differentiates, and queries dramaturgy through interdisciplinary connections.
Expanded Dramaturgy invites authors to apply and expand dramaturgical questions, both to the performing arts broadly and to fields that, in turn, offer new dramaturgical possibilities and insight. Such fields include environmental design, computational design, cognitive and social psychology, communications, learning and teaching, social work, research methodology, among many others.
